Friends and family converged on Monday to pay their respects to veteran actor Satish Shah at a prayer meet held in Juhu, Mumbai. The gathering blended memories, music and personal tributes to honour the actor’s life and work.
Singer Sonu Nigam performed Shah’s favourite number, “Tere Mere Sapne” from Guide, and tenderly encouraged Shah’s wife Madhu—who is reported to be living with Alzheimer’s—to hum along with him.
Footage from the event captures Sonu kneeling beside Madhu, taking her hand and prompting her to join in the melody. The intimate moment visibly moved those present and underscored the personal bonds among friends.
Actor Aanjjan Srivastav circulated the clip on social media, noting that Sonu’s gesture added a touching dimension to the memorial and illustrated how music can comfort in times of grief.
JD Majethia, creator of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, also shared memories and described the exchange as a deeply moving moment that reflected Satish Shah’s lifelong love of music.
Internet Reactions
The short clip spread rapidly online, with fans and fellow artists saying they were profoundly affected by the scene.
Viewers said the interaction brought many to tears and highlighted Madhu’s final words at the meet as particularly poignant. Several comments praised Sonu Nigam for his compassion, calling the tribute a fitting and heartfelt farewell.
Satish Shah’s Passing
The actor died at the age of 74 after collapsing at his Mumbai residence during lunch on Saturday. He was taken to hospital but could not be revived.
Shah, who had undergone a kidney transplant months earlier, had been managing ongoing health issues. His funeral was held in Mumbai on Sunday.
A beloved figure in Indian entertainment, Satish Shah was known for roles in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and appearances in films such as Kal Ho Naa Ho, Main Hoon Na, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Hum Aapke Hain Koun!. His warmth and comic timing left a lasting impression on audiences and colleagues alike.
