Bautzen, Germany: In a shocking and tragic incident, a 27-year-old trapeze artist lost her life during a circus performance in Bautzen, eastern Germany. The accident occurred on September 28 at the Paul Busch Circus, leaving the audience, including many children, in horror.
The artist, Marina B., originally from Mallorca, Spain, fell approximately five meters while performing a solo trapeze act. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but authorities confirmed that she died instantly.
Local officials are investigating the cause of the accident. Ralf Huppertz, head of Germany’s Circus Association, suggested that Marina might have experienced a health issue, saying, "It is unusual for a skilled performer like Marina not to survive a fall from that height. Perhaps she felt dizzy on the trapeze."
According to police spokesperson Stefan Heiduck, Marina had chosen not to use a safety rope during the performance, a decision she was allowed to make as part of her routine. At the time, no other performers were in the ring.
Marina was an active social media user, sharing her passion for performance. Her last Instagram post, just weeks before the incident, showed her mid-flight with the caption: "Up here, I work best." She also posted, "I believe that art has the power to create unforgettable moments."
Following the tragedy, the circus closed, with a notice at the ticket booth informing visitors about the accident.
The incident highlights the inherent risks of circus performances and has left the local and international circus community mourning the loss of a talented artist.
