Hanoi, Vietnam – The death toll from Typhoon Bualoi and the severe floods it caused in Vietnam has risen to 51, according to the latest government report released on Friday. The storm, which struck northern central Vietnam on Monday, brought massive sea waves, strong winds, and heavy rainfall. The typhoon also left 14 people missing and injured 164 others, the government’s disaster management agency reported.
The agency further reported that the property damage caused by the typhoon and flooding has increased significantly. The total loss is now estimated at 15.9 trillion dong (approximately $603 million), up from $435.8 million reported on Thursday. Typhoon Bualoi severely affected public infrastructure, including roads, schools, and government offices. Power outages were widespread, leaving tens of thousands of families without electricity.

Over 230,000 houses were damaged or flooded, and nearly 89,000 hectares of rice fields and other crops were destroyed. Despite this, the report did not note significant damage to industrial properties. Vietnam, being a major regional manufacturing hub, has many large factories along or near the typhoon’s path, including companies like Foxconn, Formosa Plastics, Luxshare, and Vinfast.
In response to the disaster, the central bank has asked commercial banks to support affected businesses. This may include restructuring loans or freezing repayments for companies hit by the storm, according to Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha.
Officials continue to monitor the situation and are urging residents to stay safe as recovery efforts begin. The Vietnam floods and Typhoon Bualoi damage highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the country during the storm season.
