The UAE Athletics Team elevated its medal count to four—two golds, one silver, and one bronze—at the 3rd Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain. This remarkable achievement positions the UAE in eighth place overall, securing the leading position among Arab nations and showcasing the prowess of Emirati athletes on the international stage.
Sprinter Arwa Ali clinched gold in the women’s 100 metres, clocking an impressive 11.45 seconds, which set a new record for the Asian Youth Games. This was her third record-setting performance throughout the tournament. Qatar’s Dana Salem secured silver with a time of 11.60 seconds while China’s Yan Shinyi took bronze at 11.79 seconds. Arwa Ali’s extraordinary speed and reliability in sprinting stand out in this competition.
In the women’s 400 metres, Aisha Mohammed also shone brightly, winning gold with a time of 54.25 seconds, showcasing her exceptional speed and endurance. India’s Jason Edina finished with silver at 55.43 seconds, while Wu Xia Ying from Chinese Taipei earned bronze with 56.60 seconds. Aisha Mohammed’s success further solidifies the UAE’s status in youth athletics on an international platform.
In the men’s 400-metre race, UAE's Saeed Omar brought home the silver medal, clocking 47.18 seconds. The gold medal went to China’s Jia Yang at 46.57 seconds and Sri Lanka’s Costa Shanuka claimed bronze in 47.72 seconds. Omar’s achievement highlights the UAE’s commitment to fostering young athletic talents.
Notably, Mohammed Adel Al Ali made history by winning the UAE’s first medal in the hammer throw at the Asian Youth Games, earning bronze with a throw of 62.03 metres. This accomplishment indicates the growing prowess of the UAE in field events alongside its strength in track competitions.
The medal ceremony was honored by the presence of Ahad Mohammed bin Kerdous Al Ameri, the UAE Ambassador to Bahrain, and Major General Dr Mohammed Al Mur, a member of the National Olympic Committee's Board of Directors and President of the Athletics Federation. Their attendance underscored the importance of supporting young athletes and celebrating their international successes.
Thanks to record-setting performances by Arwa Ali and Aisha Mohammed, along with impressive results in men’s events and field competitions, the UAE’s youth athletes are poised for future achievements. These successes reflect the nation’s ongoing commitment to training, development, and global participation, paving the way for sustained excellence in athletics.
