Harnessing Technology and Compassion at UAE Nursing Conference

Harnessing Technology and Compassion at UAE Nursing Conference

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The 2nd Annual Nursing Conference, held under the honorary patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi on 12 November 2025.

Centered around the theme of “The SMART Nurse: Integrating Technology with Clinical Expertise to Shape the Future of Patient Care,” this event delved into the crucial impact of digital innovations and artificial intelligence within nursing. The focus was on bolstering patient-centered care while ensuring the human element remains paramount in healthcare.

Sheikh Nahyan emphasized the conference's goal: empowering nurses, midwives, and healthcare practitioners to harmonize technical proficiency with empathy. He underscored the UAE's progression in creating a healthcare framework that merges technological advancements with ethical and humanitarian principles. “Nurses serve as the vital link between knowledge and compassionate care. They provide comfort, healing, and hope,” he stated, highlighting the importance of nursing in the healthcare landscape.

With over 500 delegates attending from the UAE and abroad, participants engaged in sessions that addressed leadership in the AI landscape, clinical simulation methods, and practical case studies that illustrate how digital tools can enhance patient care quality.

The second day featured a live demonstration from Abu Dhabi Academy, where an AI-driven solution born from the Healthcare Innovation Hackathon was unveiled. This initiative aims to tackle real-world clinical issues and will undergo a six-month pilot trial at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Elizabeth Guffeyro, Chief Nursing Officer at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, highlighted the essential balance of technology and empathy: “While technology opens remarkable avenues, its true potential is unlocked through the compassion and insight of nurses who recognize the individual behind the data.”

The conference reaffirmed Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's dedication to advancing nursing as both a science and an art, encouraging innovation while upholding a patient-focused approach. It further positioned the UAE as a global benchmark for healthcare excellence, where technological advancements enhance but do not supplant the core value of compassion and commitment.
