Dubai, UAE – Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasized the nation’s clean-energy vision at the Singapore-IRENA High-Level Forum during the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025.
The forum, themed "Envisioning Energy Tomorrow, Building Systems Today," brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and energy experts to discuss strategies for regional integration while balancing national energy priorities.
Al Olama highlighted that the UAE’s clean-energy strategy is grounded in long-term policy stability, open and competitive markets, and strong regional and global connectivity. Over the past decade, this approach has attracted significant international investment, delivering record-low clean-energy tariffs and demonstrating the effectiveness of transparent tenders and reliable power-purchase agreements.
Through Masdar, the UAE has expanded its clean-energy footprint across more than 40 countries, contributing to over 50 GW of installed capacity today. By 2030, the goal is to reach 100 GW of clean energy and produce one million tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
The forum also emphasized the importance of scaling cross-border investments, particularly in regions like Southeast Asia where electricity demand is expected to rise 60% by 2040. Key enablers include clear long-term market signals, regulatory and grid harmonization, and innovative financing to reduce risk exposure.
Al Olama pointed to the GCC Power Grid as a model of success, helping member states save over $3 billion in generation costs while boosting reliability and reducing emissions. He suggested that similar green power corridors could connect the Middle East and Southeast Asia, fostering sustainable energy trade on a global scale.
The UAE’s presence at SIEW 2025 reinforced its commitment to clean-energy investment, regional collaboration, and international partnerships that drive sustainable growth and shared energy security.
