Russia’s Rosatom Ships Key Equipment to Turkey’s Akkuyu Nuclear Project

Post by : Shakul

Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, has delivered a new batch of critical equipment to Turkey’s Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, marking another significant step forward in the development of the country’s first nuclear energy facility.

The latest shipment includes essential steam generators designated for Unit 4 of the power plant. With this delivery, all major reactor hall components required for the four-unit nuclear complex have now reached the construction site, representing an important milestone in the project's progress.

The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is one of Turkey’s largest infrastructure and energy projects. Built on the Mediterranean coast in Mersin Province, the facility is expected to play a central role in diversifying the country’s energy mix and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.

Project officials stated that the arrival of the Unit 4 equipment completes the delivery phase for some of the most critical reactor systems. Construction and installation activities are continuing across all four reactor units as engineers work toward bringing the plant into operation in stages.

Valued at approximately $20 billion, the Akkuyu project is designed to become Turkey’s first commercial nuclear power station. Once all four reactors are operational, the facility is expected to generate around 10 percent of the nation’s electricity demand, significantly strengthening long-term energy security and supporting economic growth.
