Thailand Eyes Tourism Boost Through VNL 2026

Thailand Eyes Tourism Boost Through VNL 2026

Post by : Shakul

Thailand is strengthening its position as a leading sports tourism destination by supporting the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL 2026), a major international sporting event expected to generate significant economic benefits and increase the country's global visibility. Officials believe the tournament will contribute to tourism growth while reinforcing Thailand’s reputation as a world-class host for international competitions.

According to Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, the government views sports as a powerful soft power tool capable of attracting visitors, creating economic opportunities, and promoting Thailand on the international stage. The minister emphasized that world-class events such as the Volleyball Nations League help strengthen the country's image and showcase its organizational capabilities.

The tournament officially began on June 3 in Nanjing and continues to attract global attention from volleyball fans, athletes, officials, and international media. Thailand’s involvement in hosting part of the competition is seen as a strategic opportunity to demonstrate its readiness to manage large-scale sporting events and welcome visitors from around the world.

Government officials highlighted Thailand’s strengths in sports infrastructure, event management, hospitality services, and tourism facilities. These advantages have helped position the country as a preferred destination for international sporting competitions and major entertainment events in the region.

Economic projections from the Tourism and Sports Economics Division indicate that hosting VNL 2026 activities in Thailand could generate more than 2 billion baht in economic circulation. Revenue is expected to come from accommodation bookings, restaurant spending, transportation services, retail purchases, entertainment activities, and various tourism-related sectors.

The tournament is also expected to create employment opportunities and support local businesses in host areas. Hotels, travel operators, restaurants, event service providers, and small enterprises are anticipated to benefit from the increased number of domestic and international visitors associated with the competition.

Beyond its direct economic impact, the event offers Thailand valuable international exposure through global television broadcasts, digital platforms, and social media coverage. Authorities believe this visibility will further strengthen Thailand’s image as a premier sports and tourism destination and support the long-term growth of the country’s sports tourism industry.
