Alphabet-owned YouTube experienced a widespread outage on Wednesday evening, leaving more than 320,000 users in the United States unable to access the platform.
According to Downdetector, a website that tracks online service interruptions through user reports, 321,990 users reported issues as of 7:47 p.m. Eastern Time. The number of affected users may vary, as Downdetector’s data relies on user submissions.
The outage reportedly impacted users across multiple states, preventing them from watching videos, uploading content, or accessing other features on the platform. Social media platforms, including Twitter, quickly became venues for frustrated users to share complaints and discuss the problem.
Google, YouTube’s parent company, has not yet released an official statement or explanation for the disruption. Users are advised to monitor YouTube’s official channels and Downdetector for updates on when the service is expected to resume normal operations.
This interruption highlights the increasing reliance on digital platforms and streaming services in daily life, where even brief outages can affect millions of people, businesses, and content creators.
YouTube remains one of the most widely used platforms in the US, serving millions of daily viewers for entertainment, education, and professional content. Outages like this can temporarily disrupt content consumption, revenue streams for creators, and online communication for businesses.
As of now, the platform is slowly returning to normal functionality, though some users may still experience intermittent issues.
