New Delhi: On Tuesday morning, three important locations in Delhi – the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), and University College of Medical Science (UCMS) – received bomb threat emails. Authorities later confirmed that the threats were false, but the incident caused temporary disruption and heightened security measures.
The police said the emails mentioned RDX explosives with a one-kilometre blast radius at the three sites. Following strict standard operating procedures (SOPs), bomb detection and disposal teams were immediately deployed to check the premises. After thorough inspections, the locations were cleared, and no explosives were found.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said the threat to UCMS came around 11 am. “An email informed the college about a bomb in the premises. We immediately vacated the building in an orderly manner to avoid panic,” he said. The Bomb Dog Squad checked the building carefully, and by 1.30 pm, the site was declared safe.
Similarly, at MAMC and the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, security teams screened the entire area. DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan stated, “The emails were hoaxes. Legal action will be taken against those responsible. Senior police officers oversaw anti-sabotage checks to ensure safety.”
The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) also received calls regarding the threats. Multiple fire tenders were sent to the locations as a precaution. Police, traffic authorities, and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) worked together to secure entry and exit points and limit access during the verification process.
College officials at UCMS confirmed they received the threat email early in the morning and acted quickly. Classes were suspended, and all students and staff were asked to leave the building until the area was declared safe.
Authorities said preliminary checks suggest the emails may have been intended for another state. However, all threats, even if false, are taken very seriously. Cyber police teams are investigating the origin of the emails and are comparing them to previous hoax threats.
This is not an isolated incident. Several schools and colleges across India have received similar hoax emails in recent months. Such threats create panic, disrupt daily routines, and require large-scale security responses, even when they turn out to be false.
Police emphasized that safety is the top priority. “Even hoax emails cannot be ignored. All SOPs were followed, and security drills were carried out carefully,” an officer said.
The incident highlights the need for continued vigilance in educational institutions and government offices. While no real danger was found, the coordinated response by police, fire services, and disaster management authorities ensured the safety of all students, staff, and officials.
