Dubai Basketball Loses Close EuroLeague Game to Baskonia

Dubai Basketball Loses Close EuroLeague Game to Baskonia

Post by : Maya Rahman

Dubai Basketball faced a challenging EuroLeague Round Seven game in Vitoria, where they narrowly lost 92-85 to Baskonia. The match began with the home team setting a fast tempo and showing strong coordination in transition. Baskonia’s early energy helped them build a quick six-point lead by the end of the first quarter. Their ball movement and defensive pressure made it difficult for Dubai to find rhythm in the opening minutes. Despite this, Dubai showed signs of resilience, gradually adjusting to the home team’s intensity.

In the second quarter, Dubai’s defense improved notably. The team tightened its formations, closing gaps in the paint and forcing Baskonia to take more contested shots. This shift in strategy gave Dubai a chance to gain momentum on offense. Through patient ball movement and stronger interior play, Dubai began to find scoring opportunities inside the key. Their consistent pressure allowed them to erase the early deficit and even take a narrow lead by halftime, showing their ability to adapt and compete at the highest level.

Filip Petrušev was Dubai’s standout performer in the match. He scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds, providing both scoring consistency and physical presence under the rim. Petrušev’s inside dominance played a key role in keeping Dubai competitive. Alongside him, Davis Bertans delivered another strong performance with 19 points, hitting several key shots from distance that helped stretch Baskonia’s defense. McKinley Wright also made his mark, adding 13 points and six assists, effectively managing Dubai’s offensive plays.

After halftime, Baskonia adjusted their tactics to slow down Dubai’s offensive rhythm. Their defense intensified, forcing turnovers and limiting second-chance opportunities. Despite Dubai’s best efforts, Baskonia’s sharp shooting and disciplined play allowed them to regain the lead in the third quarter. Dubai continued to push back, keeping the score close through much of the second half. However, late-game mistakes and missed opportunities cost them in the final minutes, as Baskonia capitalized on crucial possessions to secure victory.

Although Dubai did not secure the win, their performance reflected progress and determination. The game showcased their ability to compete against seasoned EuroLeague opponents. The coaching staff emphasized post-match that the team’s defensive improvement and balanced scoring were positive takeaways. The experience against Baskonia will serve as valuable preparation as Dubai continues to strengthen its chemistry and consistency in future matches.

Dubai Basketball will have little time to rest as they face Valencia next on the road. The team is determined to bounce back quickly and refine its strategies. Their November schedule remains packed with important fixtures, including home games against Partizan on November 3rd, SC Derby on November 9th, Crvena Zvezda on November 11th, Žalgiris Kaunas on November 14th, and Paris Basketball on November 25th. These games will be key opportunities for Dubai to build momentum and showcase their growing potential in both the ABA League and EuroLeague competitions.
