Grigor Dimitrov Shines at Paris Masters After Injury Comeback

Grigor Dimitrov Shines at Paris Masters After Injury Comeback

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Grigor Dimitrov made a winning return to the ATP Tour at the Paris Masters, marking his comeback after being sidelined for three months with a pectoral injury. The former world number three, known for his elegant all-court game, defeated France’s rising star Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6(5), 6-1 on Monday. It was a significant moment for Grigor Dimitrov, who admitted that returning to competitive tennis after such a long break was both emotional and challenging.

The Grigor Dimitrov injury occurred during Wimbledon in July when he was leading eventual champion Jannik Sinner by two sets to love. The 34-year-old Bulgarian was forced to retire mid-match, leaving the court in tears — a moment that stunned fans and marked one of the toughest setbacks in his career. Reflecting on that experience, Grigor Dimitrov said it was something completely new to him. “It never happened to me before,” he shared. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court.”

Despite months of recovery and uncertainty, Grigor Dimitrov showed impressive form at the Paris Masters, delivering a composed and confident performance. He admitted that stepping back into competitive tennis wasn’t easy, but he wanted to “test himself” and see where his game stood. “Winning or losing, I just wanted to know that I gave everything I had,” he said. “Coming back after so long, you face both physical and mental challenges. There’s always that added stress, but tonight was a good night.”

Now ranked 38th in the world, Grigor Dimitrov is determined to rebuild his momentum before the season ends. His next challenge at the Paris Masters will be against either 11th seed Daniil Medvedev or Spain’s Jaume Munar — a tough test that could help him gauge his readiness against top-tier opponents. “I’m just taking it one day at a time,” he added. “After months of rehab and patience, every match feels like a new step forward.”

The tennis world has long admired Grigor Dimitrov for his resilience and graceful playing style, often drawing comparisons to Roger Federer. His successful return at the Paris Masters has reignited excitement among fans who are eager to see him back in form. For Dimitrov, the road ahead may still involve adjustments, but his comeback victory in Paris is proof of his determination and love for the game.

With the Paris Masters marking his return to the court, Grigor Dimitrov has once again shown why he remains one of the most admired figures in tennis — a player who combines skill, heart, and perseverance in every match he plays.
