Hollywood veteran and Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has officially become a father once again at the age of 70. The Emmy-winning actor revealed that he and his wife, Kayte Walsh, 46, recently welcomed a baby boy named Christopher.
Grammer shared the happy news during an appearance on the Pod Meets World podcast, hosted by Boy Meets World stars Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle, and Rider Strong. “We just had our fourth one, so it just became eight kids,” the actor said, confirming the birth. “It was, like, three days ago. Christopher’s just joined the family.”
The arrival of baby Christopher marks Grammer’s eighth child and his fourth with Kayte Walsh. The couple is already parents to three children — Faith, 13, Gabriel, 11, and James, 8.
Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh tied the knot in February 2011 in New York City. The marriage came shortly after his divorce from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Camille Grammer, with whom he shares two children — daughter Mason, 24, and son Jude, 21.
In addition to his four children with Walsh and two with Camille, Grammer also has two older daughters from previous relationships: Spencer, 42, from his first wife Doreen Alderman, and Greer, 33, with ex-partner Barrie Buckner.
News of Walsh’s pregnancy first surfaced in June 2024, when the couple was spotted walking through a London park with their children. Photos published by People showed Kayte wearing a flowing black dress, her baby bump visibly showing.
In past interviews, Grammer has opened up about how his long acting career — spanning from Cheers to Frasier and beyond — has shaped his role as a father. Speaking to Variety in June 2024, he said,
“My children — my young children, older children — the happiest I ever am is if they’re all in the same room together. My work has allowed me to be able to do that.”
He reflected on how his professional success has come with personal lessons. “It’s been painful and challenging and hard and tragic — all those things. But boy, it’s a great life. And I want to pass that on to them.”
The actor also shared that several of his children have shown interest in following in his footsteps in the entertainment industry. “Kayte and I were talking about how it’s really something that a child would follow in their father’s footsteps,” he noted. “To think that all my kids, at least the ones that have a hand in the air, are ready to take responsibility for their lives — [Kayte] said, ‘That’s something to be proud of.’”
Grammer has spoken candidly about trying to be a better parent with his younger children compared to his earlier years. In a May 2023 interview with People, he admitted,
“I have neglected a couple of the kids in my life, especially the first two. I’m trying to make up for a little of it now. I’m still their dad, so you can always have a chance to show up.”
He added that fatherhood has taught him valuable lessons over time. “I probably should have been a little clearer and maybe less tolerant with the older ones,” he said. “I’m pretty tolerant with the young ones, but I’m clear about how there are certain expectations and certain ways to navigate through a social situation: keep it close to the vest and play it straight, and you’re going to be well-served in your life.”
Grammer joins a list of Hollywood icons who have welcomed children later in life.
These veteran stars continue to challenge conventions around age and parenthood, embracing family life alongside their storied careers.
For Kelsey Grammer, who has enjoyed one of television’s most successful careers spanning over four decades, the arrival of baby Christopher adds a joyful new chapter to his personal story.
While the actor continues to balance his work in television and on stage, he has made it clear that family remains at the heart of his life. As he once said, “The happiest I ever am is when all my kids are together.”
