Four men, including two brothers, have been charged with the murder of a 30-year-old man at an oil palm plantation in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia. The accused were identified as Mohamad Bakri Mahidin, 37, Muhamad Arif Mahidin, 26, Mohamad Iekram Mohd Zaki, 29, and Mohd Firdaus Che Mustafa, 36. The two brothers among the accused are Mohamad Bakri and Muhamad Arif. All four appeared before magistrate Noor Farah Hazwani Osman at the magistrate’s court in Alor Star on September 7. They indicated that they understood the charge after it was read to them. According to the charge sheet, the four men allegedly acted together in causing the death of Mohd Badaruddin Md Nayan, 30. The alleged incident took place between 1.30pm and 3pm on August 23 at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sungai Division, Sungai Petani.

No Bail Offered

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Hazwani Md Noor handled the prosecution, while none of the four accused had legal representation during the proceedings. The prosecution informed the court that bail was not available because the case falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code. A lawyer, Durratul 'Ain Mahmud Morshidi, appeared as amicus curiae and informed the court that two of the accused had health-related concerns. Mohamad Iekram reportedly suffered an injury to his right leg in an accident, while Mohamad Bakri requested breathing assistance because of asthma. Magistrate Noor Farah Hazwani Osman directed that the health concerns be brought to the attention of prison officers. The court was told that the detention facility has medical facilities available for prisoners requiring treatment.

Court Sets November Mention Date

The court has fixed November 11 for the next mention of the case. The proceedings are also expected to include the submission of important documents, including the complete forensic report. The case will continue through the Malaysian court process, and the charges against the four men remain allegations unless and until they are proven in court.
