The United States will deploy up to 200 troops to Israel to establish a task force aimed at supporting stabilization efforts in Gaza, officials confirmed on Thursday. However, no American forces are expected to enter the Palestinian enclave itself.
The task force, called the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC), will be established by the US military’s Central Command. Its primary role is to coordinate the flow of humanitarian aid and security assistance into Gaza while monitoring the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a social media post that the US personnel will operate from Israel and work alongside international forces already on the ground to ensure smooth implementation of the Gaza agreement.
Officials revealed that while the core of the CMCC will consist of US troops, the task force will also include representatives from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and likely the United Arab Emirates. The joint center will coordinate with Israeli and other regional security forces to prevent any clashes during operations.
“No US troops are intended to go into Gaza,” one official emphasized.
The American personnel deployed will bring expertise in planning, security, logistics, and engineering, ensuring that humanitarian and stabilization efforts are organized efficiently.
The initiative aims to reduce regional tensions and create a pathway for further negotiations on normalization deals between Israel and Arab countries. These agreements, following the Abraham Accords brokered by President Donald Trump during his first term, previously brought Israel together with Bahrain, the UAE, Morocco, and Sudan.
Officials noted that countries like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Mauritania, Algeria, Syria, and Lebanon could be potential candidates for future normalization agreements with Israel, depending on the success of the Gaza stabilization plan.
What This Means for the Region
The US deployment to Israel highlights the international community’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Gaza following the Israel-Hamas ceasefire. By coordinating humanitarian aid, ensuring security, and supporting regional partners, the CMCC is expected to play a crucial role in stabilizing Gaza and laying the groundwork for broader Middle East peace initiatives.
