Vietnam has reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a major global semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing hub after Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung met Jeff Place, Supply Chain Director of US-based Coherent Group, in Hanoi. The meeting focused on expanding investment, technology cooperation and innovation between Vietnam and the United States.
The government said science, technology and digital transformation will remain key drivers of economic growth during the 2026-2030 period.
Government Prioritises High-Tech Investment
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung said Vietnam is actively attracting foreign direct investment projects that bring advanced technology, research and development capabilities, skilled workforce training and stronger participation in global supply chains.
He added that Vietnam is building an advanced semiconductor ecosystem covering chip design, packaging, testing, materials production and supporting industries.
Vietnam Focuses on AI and Digital Infrastructure
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted Vietnam's plan to promote artificial intelligence, data centres and digital infrastructure using energy-efficient technologies while ensuring cybersecurity and data protection.
Officials believe these investments will improve innovation capacity and strengthen Vietnam's position in the global technology industry.
Coherent Plans Long-Term Expansion
Jeff Place said Coherent has operated in Vietnam for nearly 25 years and considers its Vietnamese manufacturing facilities among the company's best worldwide. He confirmed the company plans to expand investment, support semiconductor ecosystem development and continue training highly skilled engineers.

The company also aims to deepen research partnerships with Vietnamese universities to accelerate innovation and new technology development.
Building Vietnam's Global Supply Chain Role
Coherent said its expertise across the entire semiconductor supply chain, from raw materials to complete laser systems, allows it to contribute significantly to Vietnam's industrial development.
The company believes Vietnam can become an important production and technology centre within the global semiconductor industry over the next decade.
Vietnam Welcomes US Technology Companies
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung reaffirmed that Vietnam highly values its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. He invited more American companies to expand investment in high-value industries, especially semiconductors, electronics, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
The government pledged continued support for international businesses investing in Vietnam's technology-driven future.
