Allu Arjun Charged in Connection with Pushpa 2 Premiere Incident

Allu Arjun Charged in Connection with Pushpa 2 Premiere Incident

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Renowned South Indian actor Allu Arjun is one of 23 individuals named in a chargesheet linked to the devastating stampede that occurred during the Pushpa 2 premiere at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad in December 2024.

The chargesheet, filed by Chikkadpally police and presented to the 9th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court at Nampally, comes over a year following the tragic incident that raised significant concerns over crowd control at celebrity events.

Details of the Chargesheet

Authorities report that among those charged are Allu Arjun, his personal manager, staff members, eight private bouncers, and the management of Sandhya Theatre. They have cited serious lapses in crowd management as key factors leading to the tragedy.

Investigations revealed that the theatre's management did not implement proper crowd control strategies, despite prior knowledge of the actor’s visit. Significant attention has been drawn to the fact that police had denied permission for Allu Arjun's attendance due to safety issues.

The Incident Unfolds

On the evening of December 4, 2024, a large crowd assembled outside Sandhya Theatre in the RTC X Roads area of Hyderabad in hopes of seeing the actor at the premiere. In the ensuing chaos, 35-year-old M. Revathi tragically lost her life, and her nine-year-old son, Sritej, suffered critical injuries due to a lack of oxygen. The family had come to the screening, as the child was an enthusiastic fan of Allu Arjun.

Sritej’s Path to Recovery

Sritej was taken to a private hospital in Secunderabad in a semi-conscious condition and required immediate ventilator support in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Medical professionals reported dangerously low oxygen levels that led to serious neurological issues.

He spent over four months in intensive care and was discharged on April 29, 2025. Since then, he has been receiving ongoing treatment at a neuro-rehabilitation facility in Hyderabad. His family continues to seek additional compensation to cover ongoing medical expenses.

Causes of the Chaos

The chargesheet indicates that actions from private security staff and attempts to engage with the crowd incited a sudden spike in tension, exacerbating the turbulent atmosphere outside the theatre. Police suggest that the behavior of bouncers and staff members played a pivotal role in inciting panic and loss of order.

Legal charges under Section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence have been filed against the theatre's owners, alongside relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering public safety.

Trial in Progress

After being briefly detained in December 2024, Allu Arjun was granted bail. Police officials reported that he was cooperative throughout the investigation and was interrogated several times.

An official connected to the case stated, “The investigation has concluded with all evidence documented, and the final report has been submitted to the court. The legal proceedings will advance from here.”

With the chargesheet now filed, the case has entered the trial stage, thereby intensifying discussions around accountability, safety regulations at events, and the duties of celebrities and organizers in managing large crowds.
