Ranveer Singh’s latest film, Dhurandhar, has become a massive hit worldwide, crossing the ₹1000 crore mark at the box office. Directed by Aditya Dhar, this spy thriller is a two-part series and has emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. The movie, which is set against the backdrop of Karachi’s Lyari area, features Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy who infiltrates a Pakistani gang. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun in important roles.
While the film has been successful in India and many other countries, it faced a ban in several Middle Eastern countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman. This ban has caused a significant loss of around ₹90 crore (approximately $10 million) in overseas earnings.
Pranab Kapadia, Dhurandhar’s overseas distributor, revealed that the Gulf market is very important for Indian action films, as they have traditionally done well there. He said the ban resulted in a major loss of about $10 million. Pranab added that although they made every effort to secure a release in the Gulf, the decision had to respect the laws and regulations of each country.
Despite the ban, the film still found a large audience elsewhere. The distributor also noted that the timing of the film’s release during the December holidays helped offset some of the losses. Many fans from Gulf countries watched the movie while traveling abroad to Europe or the US during the holiday season.
Pranab explained, “Many fans from the Gulf traveled overseas during December holidays and managed to watch Dhurandhar. The timing of the release, coinciding with the holiday period, helped the film reach its audience despite the ban.”
Dhurandhar is praised for its gripping storyline and intense portrayal of anti-terror operations and geopolitical tensions. Although it received mixed reviews, its box office success proves the film’s wide appeal among audiences.
