Ranveer Singh’s spy thriller Dhurandhar has delivered a phenomenal performance at the global box office, recently crossing the impressive milestone of Rs 1100 crore worldwide. This achievement places the film among the top-grossing Indian movies of all time. However, after an extraordinary run, the film has begun to show signs of slowing down, with its lowest single-day earnings recorded on the fourth Friday since its theatrical release.
On that Friday, Dhurandhar collected Rs 9.70 crore at the domestic box office, pushing its total Indian earnings to Rs 794.20 crore. The overall occupancy in cinemas across the country dropped to 18 percent. Morning shows experienced the lowest turnout with only 9.65 percent occupancy. The afternoon and evening shows attracted more viewers, with occupancy rates of 20.32 percent and 21.93 percent respectively.
Breaking down the figures regionally, the National Capital Region (NCR) maintained a 20 percent occupancy across 921 shows, reflecting a decent audience presence. Mumbai’s occupancy was slightly lower, at 18.33 percent across 633 shows. These numbers indicate a clear slowdown compared to the initial weeks of the film’s release, when theatres were packed and screens were sold out.
Despite this dip in daily collections, Dhurandhar has already surpassed the worldwide lifetime collections of major Bollywood hits like Pathaan (Rs 1,069.85 crore) and Jawan (Rs 1,163.62 crore). This achievement secures its position as the sixth highest-grossing Indian film ever. However, the film still trails behind some of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema history, including KGF Chapter 2, RRR, Pushpa 2: The Rule, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Dangal, which hold the top spots globally.
Interestingly, the movie continues to hold strong against newer releases, outperforming films like Tu Meri Main Tera, which stars Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, as well as the Hollywood film Avatar: Ash and Fire. This reflects the sustained popularity and fan base of Dhurandhar even weeks after its initial release.
The film features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Ranveer Singh in the lead role, alongside veterans like Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun. Jointly produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Dhurandhar hit theatres on December 5.
Fans eagerly await the sequel, Dhurandhar 2, which is set to release on March 19 this year, promising more action and intrigue from the world of India’s top spy thriller franchise.
