George Clooney and Family Granted French Citizenship for Private Life

George Clooney and Family Granted French Citizenship for Private Life

Post by : Meena Ariff

France’s government has officially granted French citizenship to Hollywood star George Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney, a renowned human rights lawyer, and their twin children, Ella and Alexander. This significant announcement was published recently in the Journal Officiel, the official French government publication that records formal decrees and legal decisions.

Amal Clooney was naturalized under her maiden name, Amal Alamuddin, reflecting her identity prior to marriage. The official notice also mentioned George Clooney’s full name, which includes his middle name, Timothy. This naturalization marks an important milestone for the family, who have deepened their ties to France since purchasing a countryside estate in 2021.

Since acquiring the property, George and Amal Clooney have made France their primary residence. In an interview earlier this year, George Clooney shared the family’s motivations behind this move. He expressed concerns about raising their children amid the intense Hollywood culture in Los Angeles. “I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., with the Hollywood culture,” Clooney said. “I don’t want them worrying about paparazzi or being compared to other famous kids.”

Choosing to settle in France offers their twins a more private and normal childhood, away from the glare of the global spotlight. Clooney described how living in France has allowed their children to experience a grounded lifestyle, including family dinners and limited screen time, contrasting sharply with the fast-paced, fame-driven environment often associated with Hollywood.

While the family has embraced French citizenship, it remains unclear whether George Clooney has retained his American citizenship. Amal Clooney, originally born in Lebanon and raised in the United Kingdom, along with their London-born twins, Ella and Alexander, now officially hold French citizenship as part of this naturalization.

This development underscores the Clooney family’s commitment to privacy and a balanced family life, choosing the serene French countryside over the hectic celebrity scene of Los Angeles to raise their children.
