A couple from Vadodara, Gujarat, has alleged that their 28-year-old son, Tushar Ranpara, is being held captive in Thailand. The family has appealed to state and central authorities for immediate intervention to ensure his safety and return.
According to Tushar’s parents, Nagarbhai and Rita Ranpara, their son initially traveled to Dubai in April 2024 for work with a private company. Later, a Dubai-based agent, identified as Abhishek Kumar, arranged for Tushar to relocate to Thailand in September 2024.
The family maintained regular communication with Tushar until approximately five months ago, when all contact suddenly stopped. They fear that he may have been forced into captivity, as agents involved in the relocation reportedly confiscated his phone and restricted his ability to communicate.
Tushar’s parents expressed deep concern for his wellbeing, saying they believe he may be forced to work against his will in Thailand. They have urged authorities to take swift action.
The Vadodara City Police confirmed that they have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. The case has been escalated to the Vadodara City Crime Branch for further inquiry.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (G Division), GB Bambhaniya, stated:
"We are treating this matter with utmost urgency. We are coordinating with relevant authorities to investigate the claims and trace Tushar’s whereabouts."
Authorities are reportedly looking into the involvement of agents who facilitated Tushar’s move from Dubai to Thailand and are examining whether any laws were violated during the process.
The Ranpara family has also appealed to both the Gujarat state government and the central government to intervene. Officials may seek assistance from Indian consular services and local Thai authorities to confirm Tushar’s safety and facilitate his return.
Experts note that cases involving overseas employment scams and forced labor require careful coordination between the governments of both countries, as well as law enforcement agencies, to ensure a safe resolution.
The news has caused concern among residents in Vadodara, with local social media and news outlets highlighting the risks faced by young Indians traveling abroad for work. Activists have called for stricter monitoring of overseas employment agents and better protection for workers abroad.
Authorities have assured the family that all possible measures are being taken to locate Tushar and ensure his safe return. Meanwhile, the family continues to raise awareness about their son’s plight, urging anyone with information to come forward.
This incident highlights the vulnerabilities faced by individuals seeking employment abroad and underscores the importance of vigilance, regulatory oversight, and timely action by authorities.
