Recent reports have claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle trademarked their children’s names, Archie and Lilibet; however, sources have clarified that no legal action has been taken. This clarification follows heightened public interest generated by a new collection from Meghan’s lifestyle brand.
The rumors emerged after references to the children's birthdates appeared in the Mother's Day collection, sparking claims that the couple had legally secured their names. Nevertheless, insiders have confirmed that no trademarks have been filed for either child.
The confusion was fueled by two candles in the product range that corresponded with the children’s birthdays—Archie’s on May 6 and Lilibet’s on June 4. Additionally, earlier promotional material included their royal titles, which only complicated matters.
Although Archie and Lilibet were not born with royal status, they gained their titles in 2022 when King Charles III took the throne. They are now recognized as Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex, following their grandfather’s ascension.
In contrast to Prince William’s children, who received royal titles at birth, Archie and Lilibet's titles were conferred later because they are grandchildren of the reigning monarch rather than children of the heir apparent.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have expressed the importance of their name and family identity. Meghan has previously described the significance of the name “Sussex” to their family narrative.
Overall, as Harry and Meghan continue to build their brand, there remains no official effort to trademark their children’s names. The speculation appears to stem from marketing initiatives rather than legal intentions.
