The producer of the highly anticipated film Drishyam 3, Kumar Mangat Pathak, has announced that Jaideep Ahlawat will replace Akshaye Khanna in the upcoming sequel. This change comes after Akshaye Khanna abruptly withdrew from the project just ten days before shooting was scheduled to begin.
Kumar Mangat Pathak revealed that Akshaye Khanna was signed after lengthy negotiations and a formal agreement, including a finalized fee. Initially, Akshaye had agreed not to wear a wig in order to maintain continuity with the earlier films. However, after receiving advice from people around him, he reversed this decision and insisted on wearing a wig. The director, Abhishek Pathak, tried to convince him otherwise, citing the continuity issues for the sequel, but Akshaye eventually decided to quit the film altogether.
The producer further commented on Akshaye Khanna's career journey, stating that the actor had faced a dry spell before his roles in Section 375 (2019) and Drishyam 2 (2022), which brought him back into the limelight. According to Kumar, Akshaye’s recent success seems to have affected his professionalism on set, with claims of toxic behavior and overconfidence following his recent hits.
With Akshaye’s exit, Jaideep Ahlawat has officially joined the Drishyam 3 cast. The producer praised Jaideep not only as a talented actor but also as a better professional. Kumar Mangat Pathak also revealed that he had produced one of Jaideep’s early films, Aakrosh (2010).
The producer mentioned facing financial losses due to Akshaye Khanna's last-minute withdrawal and has sent a legal notice to the actor, with further legal action expected.
Kumar expressed disbelief over the wig demand, pointing out the inconsistency it would create in a direct sequel where the character’s look must remain the same.
With Jaideep Ahlawat now on board, the film’s makers are confident that Drishyam 3 will continue to uphold the legacy of the franchise.
