In the UK, comedian Russell Brand is facing new charges of rape and sexual assault, expanding a growing legal case amid several allegations. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has confirmed that these additional accusations involve two more women, increasing the total number of complainants to six.
The new claims, traced back to 2009, follow a thorough investigation by the Metropolitan Police. Brand, now 50, had already been charged with crimes allegedly committed between 1999 and 2005, including two counts of rape, one of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. Locations of the alleged offenses span from Bournemouth to London.
Lionel Idan, the chief Crown prosecutor for the CPS, stated that the decision to bring these additional charges was made after a careful review of evidence, emphasizing the public interest in pursuing justice for the alleged victims. Idan also reminded the community that the legal process is ongoing and that Brand has the right to a fair trial.
Russell Brand is set to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20, 2026, to respond to the freshly filed charges. The trial for earlier allegations has been scheduled for June 3, 2026, with proceedings projected to last four to five weeks.
Brand has repeatedly denied all allegations. In prior court appearances, he pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault, asserting he has never participated in non-consensual acts and upholding his innocence.
In recent years, Brand has distanced himself from mainstream media, building a notable online presence by sharing videos that encompass themes like wellness, spirituality, and a variety of conspiracy theories. This marks a significant shift from his previous identity as a mainstream entertainer.
In response to the initial charges disclosed earlier this year, Brand released a video addressing his followers, characterizing himself as a recovering drug and sex addict who has embraced a spiritual journey. He insisted that, despite past errors, he has never engaged in rape and appealed to viewers to look beyond the accusations to see his true nature.
As the legal proceedings unfold, attention will remain on the court’s scrutiny of evidence and testimonies from all concerned parties. Upcoming hearings and the trial will attract significant public interest, given Brand’s high profile and the seriousness of the accusations.
