There was a lot of shouting and protest in the Indian Parliament today (August 5, 2025). Because of this, both the Lok Sabha (Lower House) and Rajya Sabha (Upper House) had to stop working and were sent home early for the day.
In the Lok Sabha, many Opposition leaders stood up and shouted, demanding a full discussion on why a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list is being done in Bihar. Bihar will soon have its Assembly elections, and the Opposition wants to make sure everything is fair and correct in the way voter lists are being changed.
At first, the Lok Sabha tried to go ahead with its normal business. During the Question Hour, a few questions were answered. But soon, the protests got louder, and the Speaker of the House, Om Birla, decided to stop the session. He said the House would meet again at 2 p.m.
When the House met again, even though the shouting continued, one bill was passed. This bill was about adjusting how Scheduled Tribes are given seats in the Goa Assembly elections. After that, the Speaker again stopped the session for the day as the protest didn’t stop.
Over in the Rajya Sabha, there was another type of problem. Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, got into a serious argument with the Deputy Chairman, Harivansh. Kharge was very upset because he said that CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) officers were seen inside the Rajya Sabha.
He said this was wrong and dangerous because security forces should not be inside the House when members are discussing or protesting. He added that it was a violation of democratic rights for the Opposition to be surrounded by security forces when raising issues.
The Deputy Chairman and government leaders denied this, saying there were no CISF forces inside the Rajya Sabha. But the argument continued, and the Rajya Sabha session was also stopped until 2 p.m.
When the Rajya Sabha met again later in the day, members passed a resolution to continue President’s Rule in the state of Manipur. This means the central government will keep running Manipur for a longer time, as normal state government operations are not happening there yet.
But even after this, protests from Opposition leaders continued, and the Rajya Sabha too was closed for the rest of the day.
Why This Matters:
The situation in Parliament today shows growing tension between the government and the Opposition. The Opposition wants to talk about what’s happening in Bihar before the elections and wants answers about why security forces are being brought into spaces where elected leaders speak freely.
This kind of disruption in Parliament delays important decisions, bills, and discussions that affect the whole country.
