The much-anticipated Dubai International Aquatics Championship 2026 kicked off on Friday at the renowned Hamdan Sports Complex, boasting an impressive turnout of 1,670 swimmers from across 100 different nationalities.
This year's event is celebrated as one of the most prominent aquatic competitions in the region, with participation from over 80 clubs and academies both within the UAE and internationally. Organizers are expecting upwards of 4,000 fans to attend this weekend's championship, concluding on Sunday evening.
Coordinated by the UAE Aquatics Federation in partnership with the Dubai Sports Council and Hamdan Sports Complex, the championship is officially accredited by World Aquatics and plays a crucial role in athlete rankings for the upcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, enhancing its global relevance.
During the opening ceremony, Abdulwahid Al Jasmi, a board member of the UAE Marine Sports Federation, stated that hosting this esteemed event underscores the UAE's growing stature as a center for international sports. He stressed the championship’s importance in developing young talent and fostering excellence in competition.
“We are proud to welcome more than 1,600 athletes from around the globe. This championship serves as an essential platform for these competitors to demonstrate their talents, gain valuable international exposure, and propel their sports careers forward,” he remarked.
Al Jasmi further assured that the organizing committee, along with its collaborators, has established top-level technical standards and effective coordination to ensure an exemplary experience for both competitors and audience members.
