The Selangor state government has decided to bring in legal and technical experts to create new rules to prevent accidents like the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights that happened three months ago.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said this decision is part of learning from the incident and making sure it does not happen again. The fire took place on April 1 and caused worry among many people.

He explained that a special committee would be formed to study the legal side of this issue. “This committee will look into laws that can be enforced to stop such incidents,” he said.

He also mentioned that these legal steps can come in many forms. It could be by-laws for local councils, new terms and conditions under the One-Stop Centre (OSC), state-level laws called enactments, or even new rules at the federal government level.

Datuk Seri Amirudin spoke about this after attending a ceremony to sign two memoranda of cooperation with three important partners: Universiti Selangor, the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC), and Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd (CSSB). This signing is aimed at making the state’s water industry stronger and better.

Yesterday, he also announced that the state would set up a special committee to study the full investigation report of the fire. This committee will also plan long-term safety measures and suggest new laws to make sure such fires do not happen again.

The committee will include representatives from the state and federal governments, Petronas, and other technical agencies.

Datuk Seri Amirudin said this is an important step to keep everyone safe and protect the environment in Selangor.
