Thailand’s government has announced a major expansion of its cost-of-living relief measures by including four MRT rail lines in the Thai Helps Thai Plus 60/40 program. The initiative is designed to reduce transportation expenses for commuters while encouraging greater use of public transport across the capital region.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand and operators of the Blue Line, Purple Line, Yellow Line, and Pink Line have officially joined the program. The move forms part of the government’s broader strategy to ease financial pressure on households and support daily travel affordability.
Under the scheme, eligible passengers will be able to receive fare subsidies through the Paotang mobile application from June 1 to September 30, 2026. The government will cover 60 percent of MRT travel costs, while commuters will pay the remaining 40 percent of the fare.
Authorities confirmed that the subsidy will be capped at 200 baht per person per day and a maximum of 1,000 baht per person each month. Officials believe the measure will provide meaningful savings for regular commuters who rely on rail transport for work, education, and other daily activities.
The program is expected to strengthen public transport usage at a time when many households continue to face rising living expenses. By lowering commuting costs, the government hopes to help preserve consumer purchasing power while supporting economic activity across the country.
Officials also highlighted the wider benefits of encouraging mass transit use. Increased reliance on rail services can help reduce road congestion, lower fuel consumption, and contribute to improved air quality in urban areas. The policy aligns with long-term efforts to create a more sustainable and efficient transportation network.
Eligible passengers can purchase single-journey MRT tickets through the Paotang application and redeem them at ticket counters across all four participating lines. Services will be available daily between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., ensuring convenient access for commuters throughout the subsidy period.
Government representatives stated that additional measures aimed at reducing living costs and improving public transportation accessibility may be introduced in the future. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to helping citizens manage economic challenges while promoting safe, reliable, and affordable urban mobility.
