India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties following a high-level summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in New Delhi. During her first official visit to India, Prime Minister Takaichi received a ceremonial welcome before both leaders held wide-ranging discussions on economic security, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and investment cooperation.
The two leaders also reviewed regional security challenges, with maritime stability in the Indo-Pacific emerging as a key focus amid growing geopolitical concerns. India welcomed greater Japanese investment, while both sides stressed the importance of expanding private sector collaboration and strengthening economic resilience through strategic partnerships.
Following the summit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi announced private sector investment commitments worth nearly US$12 billion. Japan also pledged to expand its investment in India to around 10 trillion yen over the next decade and work toward doubling the number of Japanese companies operating in the country, reinforcing long-term cooperation for shared growth and regional stability.
