RAIPUR: A major accident was narrowly avoided in the state capital when a youth attempted to ignite a fire inside a petrol pump, causing panic among staff and customers.
The incident took place on Thursday at a fuel station in Raipur. According to sources, the youth was asked by petrol pump employees to stop smoking within the premises, as it posed a serious safety risk.
Instead of following the instructions, the youth allegedly took out a lighter and tried to start a fire. His action created an alarming situation at the petrol pump, where highly flammable fuel was present.
Alert staff members reacted immediately and managed to restrain the youth before any flames could ignite or spread. Their quick response helped prevent a potentially disastrous accident.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities are expected to take appropriate action, while officials once again urged people to strictly follow safety rules at petrol pumps to avoid such dangerous situations.
