Scheduled for December 21, 2025, the Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo cycling event, organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, promises to be a major highlight on the UAE’s sporting calendar. Spanning 150 kilometers, the race will kick off at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain and finish at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, showcasing the emirate’s stunning scenery.
This year's event features a remarkable AED 2 million in total prize money, distributed among 364 awards—an increase of 44 from the prior year. This larger prize pool not only underscores the event's growing popularity but also the organizers' commitment to rewarding a more diverse array of participants. Both amateur and professional cyclists are drawn to this event, which plays a pivotal role in establishing Abu Dhabi as an international cycling destination.
Preparations are in full swing, with the race village now operational at the Sheikh Zayed Festival. Participants are busy picking up race packs and technical gear, along with reviewing the official race guide. This guide contains essential details about the route, safety protocols, checkpoints, and hydration stations to ensure competitors are well-prepared come race day.
An exciting addition this year is the new Emirati category, aimed at bolstering national participation. The race will also adopt a staggered start at 7:00 a.m., organized by age groups, skill levels, and participation types, promoting a seamless racing experience for both individuals and teams.
Returning as the official timekeeper, Tissot emphasizes the high standards of this event. The Swiss company, with a legacy dating back to 1853, has a longstanding affiliation with global cycling through its partnership with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), thus enhancing the Gran Fondo's adherence to international standards in accuracy and performance.
His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, pointed out the event’s role in fulfilling the emirate's long-term cycling aspirations. He mentioned that the new route, increased prize pool, and consistent rise in participation reflect Abu Dhabi's ambition to become a premier cycling destination.
Race Director Adnan Shaheen shared similar views, expressing enthusiasm for the expected international turnout for this fourth edition. He highlighted the increasing number of participating teams from various countries, showcasing the event's broader appeal.
The Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is part of the wider Bike Abu Dhabi initiative, which promotes cycling events throughout the year to foster community wellness, tourism, and world-class competition.
Key sponsors for this year include Tissot, Burjeel Medical City, Bin Hamoodah Auto, Belmez Sports, Mubadala, Tadweer Group, Al Ain Water, Marathon, and Wolfi’s. The event is also supported by the Sheikh Zayed Festival, Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi Police, Hazza bin Zayed Stadium, and Al Qattara.
With its refreshed route, expanded prize offerings, and enhanced participation, the 2025 edition is poised to elevate Abu Dhabi's status on the global cycling stage and inspire greater community engagement in the sport.
