The release of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s eagerly awaited Telugu film Akhanda 2 has been postponed indefinitely, just shy of its planned worldwide launch on December 5. The production company, 14 Reels Plus, mentioned unavoidable circumstances and ongoing legal issues as the reason for this last-minute change, disappointing both fans and industry observers.
Initially, the film was set for paid premieres on December 4, but confusion regarding ticket sales in the Nizam area forced a cancellation. Additionally, Overseas Key Delivery Messages (KDMs) necessary for digital screenings were not approved, complicating distribution even further.
In an official announcement, 14 Reels Plus expressed:
"It is with great regret that we announce #Akhanda2 will not debut as planned due to unavoidable circumstances. We deeply empathize with the disappointment this brings to our fans and movie enthusiasts. We are working hard to resolve these matters soon. Your support is invaluable to us, and we will provide a positive update shortly."
In Tamil Nadu, the release encountered a court-related setback when the Madras High Court issued an injunction at the request of Eros International Media Limited, blocking the film’s release, distribution, or any commercial utilization. This ruling stemmed from a protracted arbitral dispute involving 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited, totaling around Rs 28 crore. Eros contended that this release under 14 Reels Plus LLP was an attempt to evade compliance with the arbitral decision.
Financial challenges have also played a role in the unexpected postponement. Though such issues are not unusual in Telugu cinema, the sudden delay of a significant film like Akhanda 2 has left fans eagerly waiting for a new release date.
