Apple is thinking about giving Siri a major brain boost—and it might not do it alone. The company is in early talks with OpenAI and Anthropic, two well-known AI firms, to see if their technology can help improve Siri’s performance.
Right now, Apple is testing whether special versions of these AI tools could run on its own cloud servers. If everything works, Siri could become much more helpful in the future.
Although nothing has been finalized yet, this shows Apple is open to working with others as it tries to catch up in the fast-moving AI space.
Earlier this year, Apple said big improvements to Siri wouldn’t arrive until 2026. Behind the scenes, the company made some big leadership changes to speed things up. Mike Rockwell is now leading the Siri project after CEO Tim Cook reportedly lost confidence in the previous head of AI.
At its annual developer event in June, Apple revealed some small but useful new features—like real-time translations during phone calls—but didn’t go all-in on AI like some of its rivals. The company also said developers will soon be able to use its own AI model, along with OpenAI’s code tools, to build better apps.
For now, Apple is still experimenting. But one thing is clear: it’s getting serious about making Siri smarter, whether through its own work or by teaming up with others.
