Rescue Operation Saves Bald Eagles From Power Line in Surrey

Rescue Operation Saves Bald Eagles From Power Line in Surrey

Post by : Shweta

In an unusual turn of events, two bald eagles were saved after getting entangled in a power line during a fight in Surrey. The sight caught the attention of nearby residents, prompting quick action from emergency crews and wildlife experts.

As stated by the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, the eagles likely got caught while demonstrating territorial behavior, which peaks during nesting season. At this time, it's common for bald eagles to defend their nests aggressively, sometimes causing dangerous incidents.

Images captured from the scene show the eagles dangling upside down from the power line, their legs twisted and wings outstretched as they confronted each other. The precarious situation not only posed a threat to the birds but also involved live electrical wires.

BC Hydro crews promptly arrived at the scene after receiving alerts, temporarily cutting power to the line to facilitate a safe rescue operation. Simultaneously, Surrey Fire Services deployed a ladder truck to assist in reaching the trapped eagles.

A trained wildlife rehabilitation team member was elevated in a bucket alongside the firefighters to oversee the rescue efforts. During the operation, one person carefully dealt with the wires, while another, wearing protective gloves, meticulously worked to separate the eagles. Achieving this required patience and precision to ensure the well-being of both birds.

Once freed from entanglement, the eagles soared off in opposite directions, and officials confirmed they appeared unharmed, marking a successful and unusual rescue mission.

Wildlife experts emphasized that such occurrences underscore the risks faced by birds in urban settings during breeding season. Fortunately, this particular incident concluded positively, as both eagles returned safely to the wild, likely to their respective nests.
