The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced it will work closely with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to address security concerns ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. This comes after the board initially refused to send its team to India.
In a statement on Wednesday, the BCB said it will cooperate with tournament organizers to ensure Bangladesh’s participation. “The ICC has assured that the board’s concerns will be considered as part of detailed security planning for the event,” it added.
The governing body and BCB held a virtual meeting on Tuesday after Bangladesh requested a change of venue for its matches, as all its group games were scheduled in India. The decision followed a controversy involving star fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was dropped by his IPL team under directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Following the incident, Bangladesh’s interim government also banned IPL broadcasts, citing public outrage over the player’s removal.
The BCB emphasized that reports suggesting an ultimatum from the ICC are “completely false” and do not reflect official communication. The board remains committed to resolving the issue professionally and ensuring the smooth participation of its team.
Recent tensions between Bangladesh and India, including social unrest and diplomatic disputes, have heightened concerns over the team’s security during the tournament.
