In a close Women’s World Cup match in Visakhapatnam on Monday, Bangladesh fought hard but lost to South Africa by just three wickets. Chasing 233, South Africa struggled at 78-5 against Bangladesh’s spinning attack. However, the lower order, led by Nadine de Klerk, guided the team to a narrow victory in the final over.
The heartbreaking loss left Bangladesh players emotional. Captain Nigar Sultana praised her team’s effort, saying the young players gave their 110 percent and showed courage despite the defeat. “I’m proud of the way my girls fought till the last ball. They are emotional now, but this will be a great learning experience for us,” Sultana said.
Bangladesh missed key opportunities. Dropped catches, including a crucial one of Chloe Tryon, allowed South Africa to recover. Tryon scored 85 runs while Marizanne Kapp added 56, forming a partnership that changed the momentum.
Sultana highlighted her team’s consistent fighting spirit. “Our bowlers did well, and the team has shown courage since the New Zealand game. We have three more matches, and we should be proud of our performance,” she added.
Despite the narrow defeat, Bangladesh showed resilience and skill, sending a strong message to their World Cup competitors.
