British social media personality "Big John" Fisher, famous for his viral fast food reviews and signature catchphrase “bosh”, has been detained in Australia due to a visa issue. Known for his love of Chinese takeaway, Fisher arrived in Western Australia on Tuesday ahead of a planned tour across the country. However, he announced on social media that he would have to cancel his scheduled appearances in Perth and Sydney, as he is set to be deported back to London.
Fisher revealed that he was questioned by Australian border officials for four hours. Although he claimed his visa was legitimate, authorities reportedly objected to him working during his visit, suggesting that he had entered the country on an incorrect visa. A spokesperson for the Australian Border Force stated that they cannot comment on individual cases due to privacy laws.
Sharing his frustration on social media, Fisher said, “Will explain more when I get home but absolutely gutted. Sorry, Perth, sorry, Sydney.” On Wednesday morning local time, he also posted about spending his 52nd birthday in a detention hotel while waiting for deportation. Despite the situation, Fisher maintained his positive spirit, writing, “I’m still smiling and I still love Australia. Bosh.”
In another post on Instagram, Fisher thanked fans for their support but asked them not to send food, as it was not allowed in the hotel. He wrote, “Thank you for the gesture but if you have got me food please take to a food bank - Bosh.”
Fisher’s son, British heavyweight boxer Johnny Fisher, confirmed that his father would be flown back to the UK. Making a humorous remark, he added, “Rumour has it they are frightened of his express pace bowling ahead of the Ashes.”
Fisher had previously visited Australia and was scheduled to attend four events this week. His plans included hosting a “Bucking Bull” challenge at a greyhound racing event in Sydney and performing a DJ set at a horse racing meet in Perth.
With nearly 700,000 followers on Instagram and over 500,000 on TikTok, Fisher is known for filming himself enjoying meals and giving short, entertaining reviews that almost always end with the word “bosh”. He recently visited a Chinese takeaway in York which had faced vandalism, showing support to the owners and sharing a review of its food online.
Despite the unfortunate visa setback, Fisher continues to be a beloved figure online, and fans around the world have expressed their support for him during his unexpected detention in Australia.
