Maninder Sidhu, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, is embarking on a visit to the People’s Republic of China from April 12 to 13, 2026, as part of a concerted effort to fortify trade relations and expand global market avenues for Canadian enterprises. This initiative was announced by Global Affairs Canada.
During this trip, Minister Sidhu will participate in the China International Consumer Products Expo in Haikou, a significant international gathering that connects businesses and investors worldwide. Canada will be featured as the Guest Country of Honour, with nearly 40 Canadian brands showcasing their offerings. This occasion allows for the display of Canadian products across various sectors, notably consumer goods, agri-food, and lifestyle.
Officials have outlined that the minister is set to engage with senior government officials and industry leaders in an effort to promote Canadian exports and bolster commercial collaborations. The overarching objective of the visit is to enhance market access for Canadian firms and increase trade opportunities in one of the globe’s largest consumer arenas.
After the expo, Minister Sidhu will head to Guangzhou on April 14. Renowned as a major economic center, this visit will center on discussions with business leaders and investors across critical sectors such as consumer products and automotive. Talks are predicted to shed light on investment prospects and foster deeper economic collaborations.
The Canadian government has underlined that diversifying trade relationships is a significant priority, particularly in a transforming global economic landscape. By solidifying connections with international markets like China, officials aspire to facilitate job creation and long-lasting economic growth in Canada.
Minister Sidhu emphasized that the strong representation of Canadian brands at the expo mirrors an increasing global interest in Canadian products. He remains optimistic that this trip will unlock new avenues for businesses and strengthen Canada’s stature as a dependable and innovative trading partner.
This visit aligns with Canada’s broader strategy to enhance its global trade network and open up more pathways for Canadian businesses to achieve success on the international stage.
