The UAE and the globe will witness a fascinating celestial event known as a “Blue Moon” on May 31.
The full moon is expected to start appearing on the evening of May 30, achieving peak brightness at 3:45 AM on May 31. Experts recommend watching just before dawn when the moon is visible on the western horizon. However, the most noteworthy view is anticipated the previous night when it is fully illuminated.
It's important to highlight that the Blue Moon will not actually have a blue tint; the term signifies its rarity rather than its appearance.
There are two classifications of Blue Moons: the “monthly Blue Moon,” which occurs as the second full moon within a calendar month, and the “seasonal Blue Moon,” which is the third full moon in a season with four full moons.
This unusual lunar event happens approximately seven times every 19 years. Following the occurrence in May 2026, the upcoming Blue Moons are slated for December 31, 2028, September 30, 2031, July 31, 2034, and January 31, 2037.
