China, Pak Missile Threat Flags US Concern

China, Pak Missile Threat Flags US Concern

Post by : Shakul

The United States has raised fresh concerns over global security after its intelligence leadership warned that multiple nations are advancing missile technologies capable of targeting American territory. Tulsi Gabbard presented the 2026 Annual Threat Assessment, highlighting growing risks from several countries.

According to the assessment, China and Pakistan are actively working on advanced missile systems, including long-range ballistic capabilities. These developments could potentially extend to intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) capable of reaching the United States.

The report also identified Russia, North Korea, and Iran as key nuclear threats. Officials noted that China and Russia are focusing on sophisticated delivery systems designed to bypass or evade US missile defence systems, while North Korea continues to expand its nuclear arsenal.

In addition to state-based threats, extremist organisations such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS were described as persistent dangers, maintaining operational presence across parts of Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.

The intelligence report also pointed to a sharp projected increase in missile threats globally, estimating a rise in systems capable of reaching the US from around 3,000 in 2025 to nearly 16,000 by 2035. Analysts suggest this reflects rapid technological advancements and intensifying geopolitical competition.

Meanwhile, Gabbard’s remarks on Iran appeared to differ from statements by Donald Trump, as she indicated that Tehran has not resumed its uranium enrichment programme following earlier military strikes. The testimony comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions and shifting global alliances.
