Coco Gauff, the French Open champion, added another milestone to her career by winning her third WTA 1000 title at the Wuhan Open. In an exciting final on Sunday, Gauff defeated fellow American Jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-5, coming back from a two-break deficit in the second set to secure a straight-sets victory.
The 19-year-old Gauff, making only her second appearance at the Wuhan Open after reaching the semi-finals last year, trailed 0-3 in the second set. Showing remarkable resilience, she fought back to 3-5 and then won four consecutive games to seal her triumph.
This victory follows her previous WTA 1000 wins in Cincinnati (2023) and Beijing (2024). The Wuhan Open title also marks her third WTA 1000 final in 2025, after finishing as runner-up in both Madrid and Rome earlier this year.
Currently ranked world number three, Gauff is also a former US Open champion. She becomes the second American to win the Wuhan Open since Venus Williams in 2015, further cementing her status as one of the rising stars in women’s tennis.
Gauff’s performance at Wuhan demonstrates her growing dominance in the sport, blending resilience, skill, and determination. Fans and tennis enthusiasts are eager to see her continue her impressive run in upcoming tournaments.
