New Delhi – The U.S. government has officially designated the recent car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort as a terrorist act. Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised India’s “measured, cautious, and professional” approach in the ongoing investigation. The blast, which resulted in at least nine fatalities, has raised national security alarms and increased vigilance across the capital.
In remarks to the press, Rubio highlighted India's efficiency in leading the inquiry. “India deserves commendation for how they’re handling this investigation. They have approached it with caution and professionalism. This was definitively a terrorist attack—involving a car loaded with explosives that resulted in significant casualties,” he stated.
Rubio also mentioned that the U.S. has offered support to India but expressed confidence in the country’s capacity to investigate independently. “We stand ready to assist, but they have demonstrated their capability to manage such situations effectively. They don’t necessarily require our support,” he commented.
Explosion Details
The incident took place near the iconic Red Fort, marking the first significant terror-related event since the April shooting in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which took 26 lives. Indian officials have linked this attack to a group associated with the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed. Law enforcement reportedly recovered close to 3,000 kilograms of explosives and several assault rifles during the investigation.
Home Minister Amit Shah assured that all responsible will be brought to justice, stating, “Everyone involved in this act will face the full force of our agencies,” he said following critical security discussions.
Global Reactions and Diplomatic Discussions
Rubio held discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Canada, expressing condolences for the victims and addressing mutual interests concerning security and bilateral relations. Rubio referred to the incident’s potential wider implications while affirming his trust in India's ability to conduct a thorough investigation.
This week, India formally labeled the event as a “terrorist incident”, asserting that anti-national forces were responsible. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the larger network behind the blast while authorities boost security measures in the capital.
The Delhi explosion emphasizes the ongoing threat from terrorist organizations in the region, showcasing India's effective response that has drawn international recognition and reaffirmed the nation's commitment to security and law enforcement efficacy.
