The recently released trailer for Aditya Dhar's upcoming spy action thriller, Dhurandhar, has sparked intense reactions from the audience. Promising adrenaline-pumping action and brutal imagery, the trailer has garnered attention for its graphic depictions of violence, torture, and brutality that highlight the grim reality of espionage.
Content creator and political commentator Dhruv Rathee has publicly condemned the trailer, urging director Aditya Dhar to reconsider his approach to violence in cinema. Shortly after the trailer's debut, Rathee tweeted, “Aditya Dhar has crossed the line of decency in Bollywood. The grotesque violence displayed in his latest film resembles watching ISIS atrocities and calling it 'art.'”
He continued to express his concern regarding the impact on youth, stating, “His insatiable thirst for profit is poisoning young minds by desensitizing them to extreme violence and glorifying unspeakable cruelty.” Rathee has called upon the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) to take action, questioning, “Will the Censor Board prioritize its issues with on-screen kisses over scenes of graphic violence?”
Featuring Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy in Pakistan, the film's cast also includes Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and R. Madhavan in key roles. The trailer showcases shocking sequences, including one where Arjun Rampal's ISI Major character skins an individual alive, and another where Akshaye Khanna, as a Lahore gangster, savagely beats a victim to death with a stone.
Despite Rathee's criticism, many viewers are unfazed by the explicit content. Social media is buzzing with reactions that celebrate the film’s intense atmosphere and engaging action scenes. One fan remarked, “The energy, the darkness, and the vibe… it's as if Shashwat has opened a fresh chapter in Indian music.” Another commentator urged the CBFC to present the film uncut, tweeting, “What we see in the trailer is what should be shown on screen—NO CUTS, NO BLURS.”
The trailer for Dhurandhar was unveiled at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai, boasting attendance from director Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh, and the cast. Set for a December 5 release, Dhurandhar is poised to become one of the year's most controversial action films, igniting discussions about cinematic violence, censorship, and audience tolerance.
