World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, celebrated for his 24 Grand Slam victories, has announced his withdrawal from next week's Adelaide International. The 38-year-old Serbian superstar conveyed the news to his fans via social media.
“To my supporters in Adelaide, I’m sadly not physically prepared to compete next week at the Adelaide International,” Djokovic stated. He shared his personal disappointment, noting, “This is a tough decision for me, especially as I cherish my past successes at this tournament.” Having previously captured the Adelaide title, his connection with the venue and its fans adds a layer of regret to his decision.
He emphasized that his complete focus is now directed toward preparing for the Australian Open in Melbourne. “I can’t wait to get to Melbourne soon and meet the incredible tennis fans in Australia,” he added, indicating his commitment to achieving peak form for the Grand Slam event.
The Australian Open, scheduled from January 18 to February 1, is a tournament where Djokovic has enjoyed notable success. He aims to secure his 11th title at this event, which would extend his record for the most wins at Melbourne Park. Moreover, this victory would represent his 25th Grand Slam title, further solidifying his legendary status in the sport.
While supporters in Adelaide will miss Djokovic’s presence, the focus now shifts to Melbourne, where he aspires to advance his illustrious career and reach new milestones. His withdrawal illustrates the meticulous preparation required by elite athletes leading into significant tournaments, where every match is critical.
