Music icon Dolly Parton, aged 79, provided a touching health update following her absence from the prestigious International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Hall of Fame ceremony in Orlando, Florida. This event celebrated a pivotal moment in her career and the lasting legacy of her beloved Dollywood theme park.
In a heartfelt video message circulated on social media, Parton connected with her fans and explained her recent health issues. “Hello, it’s Dolly. I wish I could be with you today, but I’ve had some health hurdles this fall, and my doctors advised me to take a break,” she conveyed. While she missed the celebration, she expressed immense gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the invaluable support of her long-term partners, Jack and Peter Herschend, in making Dollywood a success.
Parton reflected on over 40 years of partnership, saying: “You’ve been a true blessing in my life. Our connection is something special. They listen and support my dreams.” She credited her Dollywood team for realizing her visions from the initial concept to the park’s ongoing accomplishments.
Recalling her emotions during Dollywood’s grand opening in 1986, she remarked: “I was as anxious as any kid hoping their birthday party would be a success. Seeing those cars lining up was a memorable moment, and they still do today.” Her dedication to creating an environment where families create cherished memories is evident in her words.
Parton’s induction into the IAAPA Hall of Fame represents a personal and historical achievement—she is only the second woman to gain this honor independently and the fourth in the organization’s century-long existence. This recognition coincides with Dollywood’s 40th anniversary, making it especially meaningful for her and the community that supports the park.
Dolly’s health challenges have been a recurring theme this year, leading her to postpone her first Las Vegas residency in over thirty years. Assuring her fans, she revealed that her ongoing treatments near her Tennessee home are manageable and “nothing major.” Acknowledging her health neglect over the years while caring for her late husband Carl, she candidly stated, “I’ve faced some issues, but I want to clarify—I’m not dying.”
Earlier this month, Parton also received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Reflecting on her upbringing in a large family, she underscored the importance of kindness and generosity, stating, “The more you give, the more blessings come your way,” as she held her honorary Oscar with gratitude.
Through her various health challenges, Dolly Parton continues to motivate millions with her strength, philanthropy, and steadfast pursuit of her passions. Her narrative resonates not only with her artistic legacy but also with her commitment to uplifting families and communities.
