Rookie VJ Edgecombe nailed a clutch 3-pointer with just 2.2 seconds remaining in overtime, securing a dramatic 139-136 win for the Philadelphia 76ers over the Memphis Grizzlies. Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid led the charge for Philadelphia, each pouring in 34 points. Embiid also contributed a strong all-around game with 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Maxey handed out 12 assists. Edgecombe finished with 25 points total, including a vital 13 points in the fourth quarter, helping the 76ers snap their three-game losing streak.
On the Memphis side, Ja Morant delivered an impressive performance, scoring 40 points, with 18 in the fourth quarter and six in overtime. Rookie Cedric Coward had a breakout game, setting career highs with 28 points and 16 rebounds. The Grizzlies mounted a late comeback, scoring the final seven points of the fourth quarter — highlighted by a four-point play from Jaren Jackson Jr. and two baskets from Morant — to force overtime. However, Coward’s attempt at a tying 3-pointer as time expired in overtime fell short.
Elsewhere in the NBA, the Los Angeles Clippers crushed the Sacramento Kings 131-90 in Inglewood, California. Kawhi Leonard was dominant, scoring 33 points, including an impressive 26 in the first half, as the Clippers secured their fifth straight victory. James Harden also contributed 21 points. The Kings struggled throughout the game, managing just a season-low 90 points.
The Boston Celtics edged the Utah Jazz 129-119, led by Derrick White’s outstanding all-around effort. White scored 27 points, blocked seven shots, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists. His performance marked the first time in NBA history that a player 6-foot-5 or shorter recorded at least 25 points, six rebounds, six assists, and six blocks in a game. Jaylen Brown also chipped in 23 points for Boston. For the Jazz, Keyonte George led with 37 points, while Jusuf Nurkic added 26 points and eight rebounds.
In Detroit, the Pistons upset the Los Angeles Lakers 128-106, spoiling LeBron James’ 41st birthday celebration. Cade Cunningham starred for Detroit, scoring 27 points and providing 11 assists. Marcus Sasser and Isaiah Stewart also had notable contributions. Luka Doncic led the Lakers with 30 points but struggled with eight turnovers. LeBron scored 17 points and made history by playing in his 1,577th career game, becoming only the 12th player in NBA history to compete at age 41 or older.
