Picture a ring that responds only when you wish, captures your ideas, and communicates back in your own voice. This vision comes to life with the Stream Ring, an innovative wearable developed by Sandbar, co-founded by ex-CTRL Labs experts Mina Fahmi and Kirak Hong. After two years of development in secrecy, the device aims to revolutionize AI interactions by prioritizing privacy and personalization.
At first glance, the Stream Ring appears to be a stylish accessory, but inside it houses a sophisticated voice-activated computer. Worn on your index finger, the ring can be activated with a single thumb press, recording your voice and transmitting it to the paired smartphone app via Bluetooth. Unlike many devices, it doesn’t store audio but transcribes your speech for later access through the app.
Dubbed as “the mouse for voice,” the Stream Ring aims for an interaction style that feels as natural as a whisper. Users can ask questions, compile shopping lists, or brainstorm concepts without needing wake words or screens. A gentle vibration confirms successful task completion, ensuring a discreet yet engaging experience. Beyond its AI capabilities, the ring also acts as a media controller: tap to play or pause, double-tap to skip songs, and swipe to modify the volume.
A standout aspect of this device is the AI's ability to reply in your own voice. During initial setup, the app captures a few phrases to build your voice model using ElevenLabs technology. Users describe the feedback as a familiar yet subtly enhanced version of themselves responding—a design element intended to provide comfort while remaining distinct.
Privacy is paramount. The Stream Ring records data only on user command, preventing unintentional audio capture. Unlike many wearables, it steers clear of health monitoring, focusing specifically on mental tasks, reminders, and notes. The device's battery life supports a full day of performance, complemented by a compact charging dock. A desktop interface is also available for more convenient note management and sharing.
This device caters to those keen to efficiently manage their thoughts, organize their daily agendas, or brainstorm ideas. Sandbar positions it as a “self-extension” rather than a conventional assistant — a tool aimed at enhancing your thought management experience without the constant oversight.
Currently available for preorder in the U.S., the Stream Ring starts at $249 for silver and $299 for gold options. Preorders come with a sizing kit alongside a three-month trial of Stream Pro, which allows for unlimited interactions. Post-trial, users can continue for $10 per month or opt for a limited free plan. Shipping is slated to commence in summer 2026, promising to usher in a new era of personalized, voice-based AI wearables.
