In a heart-wrenching incident from China, a father has been found guilty of plotting with his cousin to murder his seven-year-old son for an insurance payout. This shocking case, which took place in 2020, has recently gained attention after detailed court records were made public by the Fujian Provincial Court.
Zhang, hailing from Sanming city in Fujian province, reportedly devised the horrific plan after learning about his wife’s infidelity and dealing with persistent financial issues. The method involved instructing his young son to stand near the roadside just moments before his cousin drove a truck into the child’s vehicle, resulting in an instant fatality.
Footage and reports indicated that Zhang feigned grief at the scene, holding his son’s lifeless form until authorities arrived. Initially, the cousin ascribed the crash to distraction, concealing their familial ties from the police.
Investigations unveiled that Zhang had received an insurance payout of 80,000 yuan ($12,000), of which he gifted 30,000 yuan to his cousin. Further examinations by insurers led to the discovery of forged documents, resulting in deeper investigations and the eventual arrests of both men.
The Fujian Provincial Court has sentenced Zhang to death, with details regarding his final appeal remaining confidential. His cousin has also received a death sentence with a two-year reprieve and a fine of 30,000 yuan.
This case has sparked widespread outrage across China, as social media platforms are rife with condemnation of the heinous act. “Even a tiger will not consume its own cub,” remarked a netizen, reflecting the public’s disgust over the heinous crime.
The tragic case highlights the dire consequences of greed and the devastating effects of familial discord, leaving a haunting impact on both the family and the surrounding community.
