Dubai International Airport (DXB) encountered significant disruptions on Thursday morning due to heavy fog conditions. With visibility dropping, 19 inbound flights were temporarily redirected to alternative airports until around 9:00 am local time, impacting travelers and scheduled services.
A representative from Dubai Airports confirmed the diversions, assuring that they are “collaborating closely with airlines, air traffic control, and all airport partners to restore operations swiftly.” Passengers using DXB are urged to check with their airlines regarding flight statuses, as operations may still be influenced by the weather.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued both red and yellow weather alerts early Thursday, notifying that visibility in multiple areas has fallen below 1,000 meters. The fog is predicted to persist through the morning, with gradual improvement expected as the day moves on.
Safety warnings for motorists were also heightened by authorities. Dubai and Abu Dhabi police advised drivers to be cautious, particularly on highways and busy streets. In Abu Dhabi, electronic boards displayed adjusted speed limits, prompting drivers to modify their speed according to visibility circumstances.
The fog not only impacted air travel but also traffic conditions, highlighting the difficulties extreme weather presents to transport systems in the UAE. Airport officials and local authorities are coordinating to maintain safety in both air and road traffic. Travelers are encouraged to allocate extra time for their journeys and to stay updated with official traffic advisories to prevent accidents.
This event aligns with typical seasonal weather patterns in the UAE, where early morning fog can disrupt major transport hubs. Authorities remain vigilant in monitoring conditions and are prepared to implement further actions should the fog continue, aiming to minimize disturbances to air travel and public safety.
