Hassan Al Haydos to Build School & Sports Hall in Gaza

Hassan Al Haydos to Build School & Sports Hall in Gaza

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Doha, Qatar – Qatar’s football hero, Hassan Al Haydos, has pledged to fund the construction of a school and a sports hall in Gaza following his nation’s historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement comes as Qatar celebrates its second appearance at the World Cup, but this time achieved through the Asian qualification process rather than as hosts of the 2022 tournament. Hassan Al Haydos, 34, who returned to the national team this year after briefly retiring from international football in 2024, has become a symbol of leadership, resilience, and social responsibility for Qatar and the Arab world.

Hassan Al Haydos was instrumental in Qatar’s qualification, guiding the team to a 2–1 victory over the UAE in Doha that secured the top spot in Group A. In a statement shared with the media, Hassan Al Haydos reflected on the achievement, saying, "A new achievement that brings joy to every Qatari and everyone who belongs to this homeland — made possible by the determination and strong will of our players despite all challenges." The football captain linked Qatar’s sporting success to humanitarian responsibilities, highlighting that moments of triumph also call for acts of generosity.

In his statement, Hassan Al Haydos emphasized the importance of supporting Gaza, referencing the recent ceasefire agreement in the region and the peace summit held in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh on October 13. "In moments of celebration, our responsibility remains to remember the suffering of our brothers and sisters across the world, and to let our success be a motivation for giving," said Hassan Al Haydos. He expressed hope that Qatar’s qualification and international recognition could help draw attention to ongoing reconstruction efforts in Gaza, a region recovering from years of conflict.

As part of his pledge, Hassan Al Haydos will contribute financially to the construction of a school and a sports hall in Gaza, underlining his belief that education and sports are key to rebuilding life in the region. "I will contribute by donating towards the construction of a school and a sports hall as part of Gaza’s reconstruction — believing that education and sports are the path to life once again," he stated. The announcement has been hailed by fans and humanitarian organizations as a significant step in leveraging sports fame to support social development in conflict-affected areas like Gaza.

The donation pledge from Hassan Al Haydos arrives amid renewed international efforts to rebuild Gaza, following two years of devastating war. Experts and observers note that initiatives like these, led by influential figures such as Hassan Al Haydos, can play a powerful role in inspiring communities, promoting peace, and providing essential resources for education and sports in areas affected by conflict. Qatar’s football star is using his platform to send a message that sporting victories can go hand in hand with humanitarian support and social responsibility.

With Hassan Al Haydos at the forefront, Qatar’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup becomes more than just a sporting milestone; it is also a reminder of the role athletes can play in fostering hope and rebuilding communities. The efforts in Gaza are set to provide children and youth with opportunities to learn, play, and grow safely — a lasting legacy from Qatar’s football captain, whose contributions go far beyond the pitch.
